Marriage is no place for competition except in ONE area

Everything about the wedding we attended this past weekend was beautiful in the most authentic, non traditional way.

The ceremony wasn't in a wedding barn with string lights, instead was held in the backyard of the groom's parents with a glistening, sepia toned river as the backdrop.

The setting was intimate as there were only twenty or so family and friends gathered and everyone took their seats as the boom box speaker leaning against the tree started to play music. Heads turned as the groom escorted his mother down the hill on the side of the house wearing an emerald green suit and bare feet. Next came the beautiful bride in her wedding dress...also without shoes.

Unconventional yet intentional.

The couple purposefully started the ceremony by washing each other's feet symbolizing their commitment to serve one another for the rest of their lives. The humble act was a beautiful reminder that marriage is not a competition except in the area of serving. If a couple makes it a game to see who can out serve the other in acts of love, their marriage will outlast anything life throws their way.

A strong marriage isn't determined by how you start, but how you finish and is developed... one Marriage Minute Monday at a time.
